02 · Compliance

Routine Compliance Testing

Annual or biennial testing for facilities managers, FM contractors and insurance compliance programmes. Plain PTV evidence for risk files.

Scheduled Programmes

PTV Reference

The numbers
that matter.

A Pendulum Test Value (PTV) is a measurement of slip resistance produced under BS 7976. The HSE publishes the thresholds. Courts, insurers and auditors use them as the benchmark. There's no subjectivity.

0–24
High Risk

1 in 20 chance of a slip, or worse. The floor fails the HSE threshold. Remediation needed.

25–35
Moderate

Borderline. Management controls, cleaning regime and contamination must be reviewed.

36+
Low Risk

Better than 1 in 1,000,000 chance of a slip. Meets the UK standard for slip resistance.

Common Questions

The things clients ask first.

What does UKAS Lab 7933 mean?
UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) is the UK's national accreditation body. Laboratory number 7933 identifies our accreditation — every UKAS-accredited lab has a unique number listed on the UKAS public register. Our accreditation covers pendulum slip resistance testing to BS 7976-2, meaning the methodology, equipment, technicians and reports have all been independently assessed and approved.
How fast can you actually get on site?
For genuine emergencies — live incidents, imminent cleaning regime changes, court deadlines — we can usually dispatch a technician within 24 hours anywhere in the UK, and often the same day for mainland cities. For standard enquiries, most bookings are delivered within 5–10 working days of instruction. If you have a specific deadline, tell us on first contact and we'll confirm whether it's achievable.
What's in the report?
A UKAS-accredited PDF covering: site details, test methodology, equipment calibration references, photographic record of each test zone, raw PTV readings in dry and wet conditions, analysis against BS 7976 / HSE thresholds, plain-English interpretation, and — where defects are identified — practical remediation recommendations. Reports are CPR Part 35 compliant where required for litigation.
Someone's slipped — what do we do?
Call us first, ideally before anything changes on site. Preserve the floor in its current state — don't deep-clean or replace anything if you can help it. We'll dispatch a technician urgently to capture independent PTV readings that reflect the surface as it was at the time of the incident. Those readings, in a UKAS-accredited report, are the single most important piece of evidence in any subsequent claim.
Do you test out of hours?
Routinely. Shopping centres, hotels, transport hubs, hospitals — most of our commercial testing is done evenings, nights or weekends to avoid disrupting operations. Out-of-hours attendance is quoted at standard rates for scheduled work; genuine emergency call-outs may carry an uplift, which we'll always confirm in writing upfront.
How much does pendulum testing cost?
A single-site, single-area pendulum survey typically starts in the mid-hundreds of pounds; multi-zone or multi-site programmes scale accordingly. Emergency and out-of-hours work carry a clearly-stated uplift. Every quote is fixed, written, and includes site attendance, testing, analysis and report — no hidden extras.
Do you cover the whole UK?
Yes — mainland England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. We dispatch from regional bases rather than a single location, so response times are short across the whole country. See the Locations section above for city-specific detail, or just get in touch and we'll confirm coverage for your site.
